A board game where money beats everything
DOKAPON! Sword of Fury is a board game crossed with an RPG, and the scoreboard is simple: whoever ends up with the most assets wins. You spin the wheel, move around a wide world, fight monsters, buy weapons, level up, and take on bosses when you're strong enough. Along the way you can steal, pillage, and bend the rules, because the game openly encourages it. Money is the only real goal, so anything that fills your pockets counts as a valid strategy. The battles themselves are deliberately simple: a coin toss decides who goes first, then you pick one of four attack types and try to read what your opponent will defend with. Landing the right type gives you a weak-point hit for big damage, and guessing wrong hands that damage straight back to you. One slip can flip a fight instantly.
Playing it with your group
Up to four players can play locally on a single copy, and Online Mode lets you bring in friends who aren't in the room. The game saves automatically, so a session can be paused whenever life gets in the way and picked up again from the save data later. The speed multiplier goes up to 5x and works online too, which keeps turns moving when someone is taking their time. Between fights there's more to do than grind: the alliance system, the Tenkaichi Tournament, and other events offer extra ways to earn. You can also cooperate and share resources, or turn on each other the moment it pays off. Both are legitimate, and the game treats betrayal as part of the fun.
Settings worth knowing before you start
The System menu holds a lot of the tuning. You can set the number of weeks the game runs, adjust game balance, swap in battle music from earlier Dokapon titles, give yourself infinite magic, limit how often Wallace shows up, and hand yourself an advantage if you're new to the series. Shorter week counts suit a group with a busy schedule. Display options include HD and widescreen support, and the remaster updates the illustrations and 3D models while keeping the classic pixel-art world intact — you can switch the original pixel art back on if you prefer it. Expect a game that rewards reading your opponents as much as building your character, and expect your friendships to take a beating along the way.
