Two battlefields at once

Dimension Drive is a 2D space shoot 'em up where the screen is split into two separate battlefields. You fly on one side while the other keeps running, and you can jump between them instantly. That switch is the core of the game: use it to slip out of a wall of bullets, reach areas hidden off the main path, or appear somewhere the enemies are not expecting. The campaign is a sci-fi story about the Dimension Drives, told across 13 levels, with 13 more in New Game+ where you enter the Mirror Dimension. Secret data cubes are scattered through the levels; finding them unlocks and powers up weapons such as the Flak Shotgun, the Plasma Torch and the Pulse Cannon.

Playing it with friends

You can play solo or hand a controller to someone next to you in local co-op. On one screen you can team up and pour fire into the same enemies, or split across the two battlefields to cover more ground and grab more loot between you. The game also supports Remote Play Together, so a friend can join from their own machine while you share the session. Whichever way you set it up, the shared screen is the whole point: you are coordinating jumps between two fronts at the same time.

What to know before starting

Movement has more to it than steering and shooting. Drift Drive lets you dodge bullets in a split second, and Reverse Drive flips your approach so you can hit enemies from an angle they do not anticipate. Both take practice before they feel natural, so expect a stretch of learning the timing. Four difficulty modes are available, from Normal for a balanced run up to Insane, and the same levels can be replayed to climb the online leaderboards. The game was made by two ex-space engineers, and the comic-book style art and story carry the tone between fights.
