A two-player escape room with separate rooms
BRELOK -ねずみたちの脱出- is a cooperative escape game built for exactly two players. Each of you picks a different character, and those characters end up in different rooms. Neither player can see everything on their own, so the only way forward is to describe what you notice to the person on the other side. You wake up in an unfamiliar room with a telephone in front of you, and an unfamiliar voice comes through it. From there you look around, compare notes, and work out what is going on together. It falls into the puzzle platformer and point-and-click adventure space, with an atmospheric, cute presentation and choices that matter along the way.
Playing it with a friend
Both players need to own the game, and you talk to each other through a communication tool such as Discord. One of you sees something the other cannot, so calling out what is on screen — objects, numbers, symbols, anything odd — is the core loop. The game is designed around that back-and-forth rather than around playing side by side on one screen. A session runs about 30 minutes to 1 hour, which makes it a reasonable single sitting for two people who want to sit down and finish something in one go. The developers set the timing so it works well in live videos and streams, so it also suits a pair who likes to broadcast while they play.
Before you start
Set up your voice call first, since the game expects you to communicate outside of it. Make sure both of you have the game installed and ready before you begin, because neither player can carry the run alone. Expect to spend most of the time talking rather than acting: describing rooms, reading out what you find, and piecing together two halves of the same puzzle. Going in with someone you can speak openly and quickly with — a friend, a partner, a family member — makes the difference, since the escape depends entirely on how well you relay information to each other.
