What BQM - BlockQuest Maker- is

BQM - BlockQuest Maker- is an RPG builder with a pixel look. You play as a warrior with a sword, a shield, bombs, magic wands and a variety of skins. Dungeons are built around fighting monsters, saving the Princess and solving puzzles, and the store text is upfront that it is hardcore rather than easy. Monsters include orcs, skeletons, slimes, poisoned mushrooms, bomb men, rockies, snakes and spiders, each with its own skill. NPCs give hints and trigger events, and they will fight back if you attack them first. Events you can work with include blocks, floats, fences, bombs, switches, arrows and portals.

How a group plays it together

The shared part of BQM is the dungeons themselves. One of you designs a level, sets the triggers, places the monsters and NPCs, then publishes it once you have cleared it yourself. Everyone else in the group can then run that dungeon and see who gets through and who does not. The game tracks who clears a level, so you can compare results and comment on each other's attempts. There are also ranks for finding the newest or the craziest maps other fans have uploaded, plus official maps selected by the developers. If you would rather not build anything, you can stick to playing dungeons made by other people.

Before you start

Building is done with simple mouse clicks: pick elements, set triggers, place monsters and NPCs, shape the dungeon. Publishing lets you set an entry fee on your dungeon so you earn gold from players who challenge it. Expect a lot of failure before a clear; the store text describes clearing a dungeon after failing many times as the payoff. Note that a newer version of the game exists, so check which one your group wants to play before you all commit.
