Bullet-hell shooting from Toaplan
Batsugun is the final shooter from Toaplan, and this release includes both the original and Batsugun Special. You pick a pilot from six characters and one of three ship types, then fly through dense waves of enemies where even regular encounters can feel like a mini-boss fight. Your weapons include the Sky Mirage, Dragon's Whisper, and Judgement Flash, and defeated enemies drop experience points that boost your firepower. The music comes from Yoshitatsu Sakai.
Batsugun Special is the rebalanced version: new colors, altered enemy behavior, a smaller hitbox, and a shield that absorbs one hit. The projectile barrages get heavier, and the mode has four loops that raise the difficulty each time you clear one.
Playing together
Local multiplayer and co-op are supported, so you can sit together and take on the stages side by side. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, which lets someone join from their own machine while you host. Online leaderboards track Single Credit, No Assist, and Assisted runs, so you can compare scores after a session.
Before you start
This is a difficult game by design, and the Special version leans hard into the bullet-hell factor. If you want a gentler start, Very Easy Mode lowers the difficulty, and assist features include auto-fire at several rates. Practice mode is highly customizable for learning a stage or weapon. Quick Save and Reload work through F1-F10 and Shift+F1-F10, and you can rewind between 10 and 18 minutes depending on how much action has happened. Replays can be captured and shared, and the game supports pixel-perfect or full-screen scaling, rotation in 90-degree increments, and either Raw Input on Windows or Steam Input.
