Full-contact racing with real damage

Wreckfest is a demolition derby racing game from Bugbear, the studio behind FlatOut 1 and 2. Races come in two flavors: traditional track events where you fight for position over the finish line, and demolition derbies where the last car running wins. The physics simulation is the core of it — soft-body damage modeling means every hit bends, crumples and tears metal in ways that actually affect how your car drives afterward. A smashed front end, a missing bumper, a twisted frame: it all carries into the next corner.

The cars match the theme. They are old, banged up and patched together, ranging from heavy American machines to lighter European and Asian models. Each one handles differently, and the damage you take changes that handling further.

Racing with your group

Wreckfest has Online PvP, so your group can wreck each other directly. You can chase demolition dominance in derby arenas, go wheel-to-wheel on high-speed circuits, or take on crazy courses with intersections and oncoming traffic. The moment-to-moment play is about trading paint, surviving the pileup, and seeing who is left running when the dust settles.

Career mode is there for solo progress: battle for championships, earn experience, unlock upgrades and cars, and work toward becoming the all-time Wreckfest champion. Challenge modes add variety with unusual vehicles like lawn mowers, and on release also crop harvesters, school buses, three-wheelers and more.

Upgrading and things to know

Customization matters before you race. You can reinforce cars with body armor — heavy iron that protects you from damage but adds weight and changes handling. That tradeoff is the main decision: build a robust tank or a fragile but lightning-fast rocket, or something in between. Engine performance parts like air filters, camshafts and fuel systems push speed, while reinforced bumpers, roll cages and side protectors prepare you for derby punishment.

Mod support is built in through the Steam Workshop, where you can find mods adding monster trucks, tracks with moon-high jumps, and classic maps from famous destruction-themed games. Expect a game where finishing a race with an intact car is not the goal — driving hard and lasting longer than everyone else is.
