What World Seed Classic is
World Seed Classic is a text-based, turn-based RPG played on a world-board. You move your character across a grid, clearing tiles one at a time. Tiles can hold crafting materials, creatures to fight, or simply unexplored ground. Combat is one against one, and progression runs through tiers: I through X. Between fights you craft and upgrade gear, complete quests for rewards, run dungeons, and collect trophies. Seeds are scattered through the world, and collecting them opens up new worlds to explore. The whole world re-shapes every hour with new content, so the board you were working through will look different when you come back. The game leans toward a relaxed, tabletop board game feel rather than fast action.
Playing with your group
This is a shared world, so your friends are in it with you. You can fight other players directly, run dungeons alongside them, and generally progress at your own pace while bumping into each other on the board. Online co-op and online PvP are both supported, so a group can split between cooperating on dungeons and testing builds against one another. Movement is grid-based with four directions, and each of you controls one character at a time. Because the world reshuffles hourly, a good session is simply everyone logging in, clearing tiles, and comparing what they found before the board changes again.
What to know before starting
World Seed Classic is no longer developed or maintained. It exists as a look back at the early version of World Seed, kept around for players who want that original experience, so expect it to stay as it is rather than receive updates or fixes. It is also a browser game at its core, and the Steam version is the entry point for it. If you have played the newer World Seed, note the differences here: a four-direction grid rather than a hex map, worlds that are not infinite, one-versus-one combat rather than group fights, and a single character per player rather than a party of four. Tier levels still exist but serve different purposes, and equipment does not have the tier perks of the newer version. Fewer creatures, dungeons, quests, equipment, trophies and locations are present overall. Go in expecting the smaller, earlier shape of the game.
