A classic pixel RPG set in Eratiath
Ancient Kingdoms is a 2D action RPG built in the style of late '80s and early '90s classics, with 16-bit pixel art and a chiptune soundtrack. You explore the world of Eratiath, moving through forests, towns, dungeons, ruins and catacombs while taking on quests and uncovering the world's history. Combat uses a tap-target system where you pick your targets and spend abilities and spells deliberately, so positioning and resource management matter as much as raw damage. Enemies include orcs, dragons and ancient gods, and the loot you pull from them feeds back into your gear and build.
Playing together online
The game supports online co-op, and the store text gives two different figures for party size: the short description says up to 5 players, while the longer description says a cooperative party of up to four players. Check which applies before you plan a session. Beyond that, the group splits up the usual RPG work: pick classes that cover the roles you need, share the quest load, and coordinate who holds aggro and who spends mana on healing or control. Six classes are available — Warrior, Ranger, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard and Druid — alongside races including elves, dwarves, humans and goblins, so a full party can cover melee, ranged, support and magic without much overlap.
Before you start
Ancient Kingdoms is in Early Access, so content, balance and bugs will shift as updates land. The developers say they take community feedback and fold it into updates and expansions. The game is PvE throughout, so the challenge comes from the world and its bosses rather than other players. It is built to be approachable for newcomers to the genre while still offering depth for veterans, which makes it a reasonable pick for a mixed group where some friends know CRPG conventions and others do not. Expect a story-heavy, exploration-driven pace rather than a fast competitive loop.
