What Wings of Glory is

This is a digital version of Ares Games' tabletop game about aerial combat, set in 1917. You fly a World War I biplane and fight other planes in a turn-based dogfight. Each round you secretly pick three Maneuvers, and everyone reveals them at the same time. Your plane's model decides which Maneuvers you can use, so you plan a flight path while trying to read what your opponents are doing. The goal is to catch enemy planes inside your firing arc and shoot them. As a plane takes damage, the Maneuvers available to it change, which makes every hit matter for how you can still fly.

Playing with your group

Wings of Glory has Online PvP, so you can take on other players in cross-platform tabletop dogfights. There is also Online Co-op, and the game includes PvE with Artificial Intelligence when you want to fly against the computer. The simultaneous reveal is the heart of a match: everyone commits to three Maneuvers, then the round plays out together, so a good call can put you on an enemy's tail and a bad one can leave you exposed. Special mission objectives add bombing runs and attacks on enemy trenches on top of the plane-versus-plane fighting, and air superiority can shift the wider battle.

Before you start

Expect a tactical game rather than a reflex test. Turns are planned in advance, and the Maneuvers you can choose depend on your plane and on the damage it has already taken, so watch your options closely as a fight goes on. Positioning is what makes your guns useful: you need the enemy inside your firing arc to fire at all. The setting is World War I aerial combat over Europe in 1917, with colorful biplanes and a top-down view of the battlefield. It comes from Dire Wolf and sits in the Indie and Strategy genres.
