What Rampage Knights is
Rampage Knights is a beat 'em up mixed with randomized dungeon crawling. You play as a hero trapped by a spell in a magical forest, and every path leads to a nearby ruined castle full of goblins, skeletons and other foul creatures. From there you descend into the labyrinth beneath the ruin to face its master. The action takes its cues from Golden Axe and the Binding of Isaac: fast, direct combat on a side-scrolling stage, with rooms and encounters that change each run because items, spells, traps and enemies are randomly generated. You gear up along the way with weapons and spells that range from useful to ridiculous, and your hero changes as you go, both in looks and in how they play, picking up better gear, magic powers and tougher monsters as the run goes deeper.
Playing it with friends
The campaign runs solo or as co-op for two players, and you can play that co-op either online or on the same screen. There is also online PvP and Remote Play Together if you want to bring someone along who does not own it. In co-op you are both pushing through the same randomized dungeon, so you share the route, the loot and the traps the run throws at you. Since the environments are generated fresh each attempt, two sessions rarely line up the same way, which keeps replays from feeling scripted. Full controller support is included, so a shared-screen session can be set up without much fiddling.
Before you start
Expect a run-based structure: you try to get as far as you can, and when the dungeon wins, you start again with a new layout. Progress carries over in the form of classes and other features you unlock over time, so a short failed attempt still moves you forward. The difficulty is listed as a notable trait of the game, and the difficulty curve is built into the design — monsters get harder the deeper you go, so early deaths are part of learning the weapons and spells you find. Dozens of spells and weapons have properties that change how you approach a room, so experimenting with what you pick up matters more than sticking to one loadout. A mighty foot is included, which is worth knowing about before your first swing.
