A top-down racer that grew into a sandbox

Turbo Sliders Unlimited takes the classic top-down racing view and puts it in 3D, then opens it up with a huge pile of game modes and tools. Racing is only the start: you get sumo, tag, soccer with one or up to five balls, capture-the-flag, collector, King of the Hill, weapon battles, parkour and obstacle courses, plus race variants with deadly terrain, drafting, fuel stops and tire wear. Every mode can run as a team game. Single-player covers a Time Trials campaign against the clock and leaderboard ghosts, a Race Challenges campaign against AI, Quick Game sessions, hotlapping, and campaigns made by other players.

Playing together

Online multiplayer supports up to 20 players plus spectators, and anyone can host a public or private game with their own levels, vehicles and settings. All game modes work online, and dedicated server support with server-side scripting is there for groups that want to run their own. Locally, up to four players share the screen in split-screen, and that couch group can also join or host an online game together. Remote Play Together is available for playing over the internet as if you were on the same couch.

Building and tuning

The in-game level and vehicle editors are feature-rich, and anything you make can be shared through Steam Workshop or downloaded automatically when you join an online game. There is an AI Editor for drawing AI lines on new tracks and vehicles and for setting up AI player groups. Vehicle looks can be adjusted with colors, paint jobs, metallicness and smoothness, with optional customization packs for more paint options. Cameras come in several presets — close or far third person, first person, top-down, fixed and free — all tunable, and any game can be recorded and replayed with adjustable angles and playback speeds. The authoritative server with client-side prediction keeps competitive play tight, and the developers take suggestions for new modes through their Discord server.
