What The Shape of Things is about

The Shape of Things takes the basic idea of a Rubik's cube but applies it to real-life objects, wrapped in a calmer, more soothing setting. You get small 3D puzzles where the pieces are in the wrong arrangement, and your job is to put them back where they belong so the object reads correctly again. There are no timers and no punishment system — the store text is clear that life is hard enough, so the game just lets you work things out at your own pace. It's short-form puzzle play: easy to pick up, easy to put down, and built around atmosphere rather than challenge spikes.

How you work through a puzzle

Each piece can be selected on its own with a click, so you can nudge parts one at a time. Click outside the shapes and you grab the whole puzzle instead, which changes your point of view. From there, hold the left mouse button and drag left or right — what that drag does depends on the puzzle, and it can be rotate, pan, or scale. Puzzles show up in various combinations, so the trick is figuring out which movement each piece needs until the shape snaps into its original form.

The gachapon loop

Mystery worlds are locked inside gachapon capsules, waiting to be released. Solving puzzles earns you in-game coins, and those coins go into the gacha machine to free your next world. That gives the game its structure: solve, collect, release, explore another thematic world. Everything feeds the same relaxed loop rather than gating you behind difficulty.

Setting up your room and your session

Your cozy room is adjustable — change the weather and the time of day to set the mood you want, backed by original soothing background music and pleasing sound effects. The whole thing runs on one hand, which the developer notes leaves the other free for a hot drink. It's tagged as singleplayer, and Remote Play Together is listed as a Steam feature, so a friend can join your session from their side. The presentation is minimalist, colorful, and family friendly, which also makes it a comfortable pick for chatting or streaming with a community while the puzzles run in the background.
