A Virtual Tabletop You Build Yourself
The RPG Engine is a digital tabletop where one person builds the world and everyone else walks through it. You sculpt terrain with overhangs and caves, paint the landscape, drop in interactive props, and assemble custom maps into campaigns. Characters get made with choices for skin tones, hair, features, and clothing, and you can equip or unequip weapons and items on the fly. Imported images work as flat maps, signs, or standee characters, and there are premade weapons, items, and gear alongside kitbashed ones. Special effects are there to punch up moments in the story.
How Your Group Plays Together
Online Co-op is the setup: a Game Master runs the session while players explore the custom-built environments, animate and control their characters, and talk to each other through real-time chat. The GM can assign standardized or custom characters to players, so you decide how much control each person gets. Combat plays out as visualized scenarios on the 3D maps rather than theater of the mind. If someone at the table owns the Builders or GameMasters DLC, they can host a custom server that others join.
Before You Start
This is the base version, which works fine for joining other people's games or trying the tool out. The Builders Edition DLC adds more tools, workshop sharing, more assets, and one Base player slot in the party pool. The GameMasters Edition opens unlimited seats for Base players to join your game for free. Assets you make in game, including maps, characters, items, and player sheets, can be shared through the Steam Workshop, and workshop sharing stays free. The same interface also handles brainstorming, storyboarding, visual storytelling, level design, and prototyping if your group wants to do something other than a campaign.
