What SurfsUp is

SurfsUp is a free-to-play recreation of Counter-Strike Surf, rebuilt in the Godot engine. You ride angled ramps in the air, carving turns to keep momentum, then chain bunny hops and climbs to shave time off a run. The goal is simple: hold your speed, stay clean through the corners, and finish faster than last time. It works as a first-person precision platformer with a competitive edge, and it's built to be approachable if you've never touched surf before. Physics come in two flavors — an Easy mode with reduced gravity and adjusted physics for learning, and Legacy mode with 1:1 CS:S physics if you want the original feel. There's also Freestyle mode, which removes resets and lets you bhop anywhere, so dropping speed means starting over.

Playing it with friends

You can surf alone or drop into public lobbies, or host your own and pick exactly which maps you run. Lobbies have built-in voice and text chat, so coordinating runs or just talking through a tough ramp is built in. Beyond plain racing, there are leaderboards for every mode, style, and input device — mouse and keyboard players get their own board, controller players get theirs. Styles like Half Sideways, Backwards, and W-Only each have separate leaderboards too, so a group can compete on equal footing even if everyone plays differently. You can download any run from a leaderboard and race it as a ghost, or watch it frame by frame in the replay player. Checkpoints and splits show where you gained or lost time against the world record, a friend, or your own best.

Before you start

There are 125+ maps available to every player from day one, including community classics like Utopia, Boreas, Summit, and Mesa alongside new maps built for v2. Nothing is locked behind unlocks or paywalls. Expect a learning curve: momentum, timing, and control are the whole game, so early runs will be about surviving ramps rather than posting times. The HUD is fully customizable — drag, scale, and recolor every widget — and you can build your own crosshair. Full controller support means you can play start to finish on a gamepad with rebindable inputs and controller glyphs. Player models and surf animations are earned by playing and are tradable. An optional Supporter Bundle adds cosmetics, extra lobby settings like no timer or lobby-code-only, and profile flair.
