A movement playground built around speed

The Local is a fast-paced first-person movement game loosely inspired by Surf and B-Hop. You get a large, playground-like world to move through, with tools like rail grinding, sliding, wall running, climbing, air strafing, and bunny hopping. The point is to master how these pieces chain together and then push your times. There are 15+ timed time trials to run, plus an Orders mode where you complete orders and chase a highscore. Zen mode is there when you want to relax and practice without pressure.

Playing with your group

The Local supports multiplayer through a public server browser, and there are 5 gamemodes in total. Two of them are multiplayer: Capture, which plays like capture the flag, and Infection, where you either infect others or try to avoid becoming infected. Timed and Zen are also supported, so your group can split off and run time trials or practice together in the same world. Proximity chat is included, so who you hear depends on how close you are. You can also play by yourself.

Before you start

Levels can be created for Timed, Capture, Infection, and Zen, so the set of places to run is not fixed. The movement system rewards practice: air strafing and bunny hopping are core to going fast, and rail grinding, sliding, wall running, and climbing each open up different routes through the world. Expect to spend time learning the movement before the leaderboards become a realistic target.
