Fifty-six mini-games, one button
SUPER 56 is a stack of 56 short mini-games that jump between genres: racing, sports, runners, shooters, puzzles, hidden object, rhythm and more. Every one of them is built around pressing a single button, so there is nothing to learn before you start. The difficulty comes from timing and from how fast the game throws new ideas at you. The whole thing is wrapped in a story about Kronos and Brones, two roommates in Hell who dug up a buried cartridge and made a high-scoring bet with their neighbor. Your job is to work toward an S Rank and settle the argument. Along the way you unlock Mod Stones that change the rules of a run, plus characters, voice packs and phrases to customize how things look and sound.
Playing together
The couch mode supports 2 to 8 players in a turn-based format, and you pick the stages and rules before you start. It works the same way whether everyone is on the same sofa or joining through Remote Play Together, so a group spread across different places can still run the same session. Since everyone is pressing one button, the setup is quick and the competition is immediate: take your turn, watch the others flail, then go again. It is the kind of mode that gets loud, and the game is clearly built for that.
Modes worth knowing about
Career Mode lets you practice individual stages, which is the sane way to chase the 81 achievements when a particular mini-game is giving you trouble. Daily Challenges and Trials keep things moving after you have seen everything once, including a dedicated leaderboard for the cat-on-the-robot-vacuum trial, now expanded from a single room to a whole house. Worldwide leaderboards track your standing against everyone else. Mic Mode is the odd one out: it lets you control the entire game with sound, whether that is your voice, a squeaky dog toy or a slap on your thigh, so it is worth trying once if you want something genuinely different. Expect a colorful, retro-flavored package with humor aimed at people who know gaming history.
