A top-down space shooter running since 1995
Subspace Continuum is a 2D top-down space shooter where you fly a ship and fight other pilots in shared arenas. The controls are simple: arrow keys move, Ctrl fires guns, Tab drops bombs, Shift is the afterburner, Esc opens the menu, and typing or Enter starts a chat. The basics are quick to pick up, but the depth comes from the arsenal — bombs, bursts, repels, mines, cloaking, decoys and more — and from ships, maps and rules that change from zone to zone. Each zone is customized with its own ships, maps and style, so moving between them feels like a different game. The netcode is built to keep battles smooth with 50 or more players on screen, and the visuals keep a classic 90s look while running at modern framerates.
Playing together with your group
Your group can fly together or against each other depending on the mode. There is CTF, Turf, Football, Base Assault, Deathmatch, plus hundreds of special events. One standout co-op tool is the super-turret: attach to a teammate and your ships combine into a much heavier weapon. Beyond the built-in modes, the community runs its own leagues and events, with automated leagues and stat tracking for anyone who wants to keep score. Veterans and rookies fly side by side, so a mixed group can jump into casual dogfights or organized league play without needing everyone at the same skill level.
Before you start
Create a profile first: pick a Player Name and Password, both unique. Over 4 million names are already registered, so be ready to get creative with yours. The installer includes tutorial videos that are recommended for new pilots. Default controls are Movement on the Arrow Keys, Guns on Ctrl, Bombs on Tab, Afterburner on Shift, Menu on Esc, and Chat by typing or pressing Enter. The game is free to play and community-driven, so expect the zones, events and leagues to be shaped by the players who stick around.
