What DDNet is

DDNet is a 2D precision platformer built around cooperation. You move through thousands of maps, each one demanding tight jumps, careful timing, and control. The difficulty is the point: expect to fail, retry, and slowly learn what a map wants from you. Along the way you collect weapons that each have their own purpose, and you use a grappling hook to climb tunnels and mountains. The game has been in development for over 9 years, is free, and is open source, so the community can contribute ideas and improvements.

Playing together

You can get up to 64 friends into a session and work through maps side by side. Teammates can save you from death, or leave you behind, and both moments show what kind of group you are running with. Coordination and practice matter more than raw speed: call out what you are doing, wait for the slower player, and use your tools to help the team through a section. The official servers are spread across Germany, Poland, USA, Canada, Russia, China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Chile, Brazil, South Africa and Australia, and they are all connected, so ranks can be compared with players worldwide.

Before you start

Expect a steep learning curve. DDNet asks for skill, coordination, and patience, and finishing a map can take a long time. If you like building, the level editor lets you make custom maps, and the community adds new maps every month. Character customization is available, and the game carries tags for moddable content, puzzle platforming, racing, and team-based play, so there is variety beyond the core platforming.
