A classic FPS-RPG from 1996

Strife: Veteran Edition is a first-person shooter with role-playing elements, built on the Doom 3D engine. You play a resistance fighter who takes on the roles of spy, assassin, warrior and thief while working to bring down a fanatical order from the inside. An evil presence has embedded itself in the world, and Blackbird, an underground agent, feeds you clues as the enemies grow more dangerous. The campaign runs through 28 interconnected levels covering over 200 square miles, taking you from medieval towns to industrial complexes, ending in a confrontation that reveals the planet's darkest secrets. Along the way you conspire with allies, pick your way through a complex story, and hear a large amount of dramatic voice-over.

Playing together

The Steam features list Online PvP, and the Veteran Edition includes the planned "Capture the Chalice" multiplayer mode that was never finished in the original. That is the mode your group can load into and fight over. The rest of the game is a singleplayer campaign, so a group that wants to play together will be meeting in PvP rather than running the story side by side.

Before you start

The Veteran Edition restores and completes several things the 1996 release left unfinished: Capture the Chalice, current objectives marked on the auto-map, and a special HUD for the Torpedo weapon. On the technical side it supports high resolutions with correct aspect ratio, widescreen, OpenGL as the video backend with vertical sync, dynamic lighting and bloom, and free rebinding of every keyboard, mouse and gamepad input. Steam Achievements and Steam Trading Cards are included. Expect an old-school shooter feel with an arsenal that runs from a silent crossbow to a flamethrower, all in service of controlling the Sigil, the ultimate weapon of mass destruction.
