A dark fantasy shooter, original and enhanced
Quake is id Software's original dark fantasy first-person shooter, the game that inspired today's retro-style FPS titles. You play as Ranger, a warrior carrying a large arsenal of weapons, fighting corrupted knights, deformed ogres and armies of twisted creatures across four dark dimensions: infested military bases, ancient medieval castles, lava-filled dungeons and gothic cathedrals. Your goal is to collect the four magic runes, which grant the power to defeat the ancient evil threatening humanity. The Enhanced version keeps the authentic original while adding up to 4K and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and the original atmospheric soundtrack and theme song by Trent Reznor.
Playing together with your group
The dark fantasy base campaign and all expansion packs can be played in 4-player online co-op or 4-player local split-screen co-op. For competitive sessions, multiplayer matches support 8 players online or 4 players in local split-screen. Online matchmaking runs on dedicated servers, while custom matches use peer-to-peer support. Crossplay is supported among PC (controller-enabled), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, so your group can play the campaign cooperatively or fight in multiplayer matches regardless of platform. Steam features for this game include Online Co-op, Online PvP and Remote Play Together.
Expansions, mods and what to know before starting
Quake includes both original expansion packs, "The Scourge of Armagon" and "Dissolution of Eternity," plus three expansions from MachineGames: "Dimension of the Past," "Dimension of the Machine," and the all-new "Dawn of the Machine." In that latest expansion, Ranger is trapped in a dimension of endless illusion, reliving the same violent cycles, and must reach the Nightmare Machine to break the loop. Free curated fan-made and official mods and missions are available to download and play, such as Quake 64, with more coming soon. Ownership of Quake gives you access to two versions: Quake (Original), the fully-moddable untouched version, and Quake (Enhanced), with improved visuals, curated add-ons, enhanced multiplayer support, crossplay and controller support.
