A platformer where you never stop running
Step By Step is a 2D platformer built around one rule: your character keeps moving forward and you can't hit a pause button. You hold the Slow key or the Fast key to adjust your running speed, and you hit a wall to turn around, whether you meant to or not. On top of that you get different jump heights and Powerwalls, which let you kick off a wall with a massive boost of speed to clear obstacles. The goal is to reach the top of the map, and the hand-drawn art carries you through colorful environments with animated effects as you climb.
Playing together online
Online Co-op lets you run the climb with friends or on your own. Friends' names show up highlighted in green so you can spot them on the map, and you can spectate a friend when you want to watch their run. If the screen gets busy, you can hide players who aren't on your friends list. Character customization is there so you can stand out from the pack while you and your group trade jumps and wipeouts.
What to know before starting
There are no checkpoints, but the game autosaves instantly, so a fall means working your way back up to attempt the jump again. Some falls are small and barely cost you, while others are less forgiving. The difficulty starts easy and gets harder over time, so you build your skills near the bottom before the tougher obstacles higher up. Expect to lose runs to distractions and mistakes, and expect the punishment to vary from jump to jump.
