What Spirit Swap is

Spirit Swap: Lofi Beats to Match-3 To is an action-puzzle game braided together with a narrative one. You play as Samar, a young witch working the spirit-swapping night shift on the eastern outskirts of Demashq. Spirits have started crossing over from another dimension inside the city limits, so Samar has to figure out what's causing it while friends are asking for help and a popular band is gearing up for their big comeback tour in Demashq. The puzzle side takes its cues from Panel de Pon: you swap spirits around the board and line them up, and matching them is only the start. Arrange spirits into specific patterns and you trigger spells, so you're always reading the board for more than a simple line.

Playing through the story

The other half of the game is the storytelling, drawn from visual novels and dating sims. Samar meets a diverse cast of witches and demons, builds bonds with them, and romance is on the table — smooching included. How things play out isn't fixed, since the game lists multiple endings, so the relationships you invest in shape where the narrative lands. Between shifts and matches you also get to decorate Samar's bedroom: trinkets and keepsakes earned during play can be placed around the room, which gives the puzzle grind a small personal payoff.

Music and mood

A custom lofi soundtrack by Meltycanon runs under the whole thing, which fits the title's promise of matching to lofi beats. The overall tone is colorful, cute and relaxing rather than sweaty — it's a game about spirits, demons and feelings as much as it is about speed on the board.

Modes and group play

The game ships with several modes, including Endless for when you just want to keep matching, and a local Versus mode for playing against someone on the same screen. The Steam features also list Remote Play Together, which means a friend can join you over the internet as if they were sitting next to you — handy for the Versus mode if you and your group are in different places. Score Attack is listed among the tags as well, so chasing a high score is a supported way to play.

Before you start

The tags list both Singleplayer and Party alongside the narrative and romance elements, so expect a game that's comfortable played alone through the story and easy to hand to a friend for a versus round. Knowing that the puzzle mechanics reward pattern-building rather than plain matching will make the first few boards less confusing — think in shapes, not just lines.
