What Beat Saber is
Beat Saber is a VR rhythm game where you slash incoming notes with a saber in each hand. Notes arrive with a set color and direction, so you match both to stay in the flow of the track. Between slashes you duck and dodge obstacles, which keeps your whole body moving rather than just your arms. Every level is handcrafted to fit its music, with visual effects and haptic feedback built around the beat. The library holds 300+ songs, including artists like Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, and Metallica, with 60+ songs included in the base game. New songs arrive through Music Packs and Shock Drops during the year.
Playing together
Beat Saber has several ways to share a session. Party mode lets you pass the headset around and see who tops the leaderboard, which works well when you're all in the same room. Online mode supports cross-play matches with up to 5 players, so you can challenge friends or play against others even when you're not together. There are also global leaderboards if you want to measure your scores against players worldwide.
Before you start
Pick a track and a difficulty first: there are 5 difficulty levels, so you can start easy and work up. If a song feels too punishing or too plain, 15 gameplay modifiers let you adjust how it plays, and custom environment colors let you change how the stage looks. Campaign mode gives you specific objectives and challenges to complete when you want structure instead of free play. The game is tagged as moddable, and it's listed as Early Access, so expect things to keep changing — a large update is planned for Spring 2027. Note that music downloads are not rated by the ESRB or PEGI.
