A randomized Moon expedition

Spelunky 2 is a 2D platformer roguelike where each run sends a new explorer to the Moon to hunt for treasure and find missing family. The world is denser than the original, with more areas, characters, traps, and items, plus branching paths that let you personalize a route. Levels also have a second layer behind the normal playfield, which can hold treasure rooms, hidden passages, and other special places. Between runs you return to Base Camp, where unlocked characters relax, offer encouragement and advice, and where you can access shortcuts and practice moves in safety. As you keep playing, the camp expands into a small community. Death ends a run, so each attempt starts fresh against a newly generated layout.

Playing together

Groups can explore side by side through Online Co-op, Local Co-Op, and Remote Play Together, and the game supports up to 4 players locally. Co-op turns every hazard into a shared problem: traps, enemies, and shifting liquids affect everyone in the level, so coordination matters as much as platforming skill. NPCs can be helped, hurt, or ignored, which gives each shared run its own story. Online PvP is available for groups that want to compete instead of cooperate. The deeper mysteries in the game may require a community effort to unravel, so a group that keeps comparing notes can uncover things a single player would miss.

What to know before starting

Expect difficulty. Perma Death means a mistake can end the run for everyone involved, and the game is built around learning from repeated failures rather than steady progression. Liquid physics make water and lava move and pour realistically, which changes the playfield mid-run and can open or close routes without warning. Poison and curses can hit players and enemies alike, and classic elements like shops and ghosts have been altered enough that veterans of the original should rethink familiar strategies. Mounts such as turkeys can be found and ridden for special abilities, and enemies may ride them too. The game is an endlessly replayable playground more than a straight path to beating it, so go in ready to experiment, die, and try a different approach next time.
