A survival platformer in a living ecosystem
Rain World puts you in the role of a nomadic slugcat, a small creature that is both predator and prey. You were separated from your family in a devastating flood, and your goal is to find them while staying alive. The world is a vast, ruined landscape of an ancient civilization, filled with industrial wastes and strange creatures. Survival is the core challenge: you must hunt enough food to eat and find shelter before the terrifying torrential downpours arrive to drown everything. The ecosystem is intricate and dangerous, with every creature, from the smallest prey to the most vicious predator, acting on its own instincts. Some will hunt you, and some will even hunt each other.
How a group plays together
While the main campaign is a solitary experience where you face the world alone, Rain World includes a Multiplayer Arena for up to 4 players. This mode features both Competitive and Sandbox options, letting you and your friends test your skills against one another or explore the arena freely. The game also supports Remote Play Together, allowing friends to join in.
What to know before starting
This is a difficult game that relies on clever decision-making rather than brute force. As a small, soft slugcat, you must use stealth and wit to survive. Resources are limited, and the constant threat of the rain will test your nerve. The world is massive, with over 1600 rooms across 12 diverse regions to explore. The game uses procedural design and individualistic AI, meaning every playthrough presents a unique challenge. You can choose to play as The Monk or The Hunter, two characters that correspond to easier and more aggressive playstyles. For those who want to tailor the experience, Remix offers accessibility, speedrun, and difficulty options, as well as Steam Workshop support for community mods.
