What Flight School is
Flight School is a free crash course that prepares you to run your own Spaceline before the full game launches. You take on the role of a space flight attendant and the first challenge from a space captain: surviving the trip from the flight school to the Company Terminal. The campaign is simple and short, built to teach the basics of space-faring and give you a taste of how Spacelines from the Far Out plays. The look is retro, cartoony and colorful, with a futuristic setting and a lighthearted, family friendly tone. Procedural generation means runs do not play out the same way every time, so the challenges and events you hit on a trip can shift between attempts.
Playing with your friends
You can join up to 3 other people, so a group of up to 4 takes on the demands of ferrying passengers to their destination together. Multiplayer works both online and locally, and Steam lists Online Co-op plus Remote Play Together, so people can join from different machines. Everyone shares the same ship and the same job: keep the trip running, deal with what comes up, and get your passengers where they need to go. Controller support is listed, so you can sit on a couch with friends rather than everyone needing a keyboard.
What is included
Flight School ships with the flight school campaign, 1 ship offered in 3 layouts, low and medium tier ship upgrades, and 10 spaceline customizations to dress up your line. Tags for management, space sim, roguelike and roguelite point at a loop built around handling a ship and its crew duties under randomized pressure rather than a fixed script.
This is a standalone taste of the bigger game, not the whole thing. The full Spacelines from the Far Out adds the Aurora Terminal, fleet management with more ships to unlock, a massive main campaign, more procedural challenges and events, 50 unlockable playable characters and 100 spaceline customizations. Flight School is where you learn the ropes before that.
