What ШП - ShP is

ШП - ShP is an indie puzzle game built around a Windows Forms interface, so it looks and behaves like a piece of ordinary software rather than a game. There are no instructions anywhere. You get a window full of controls — buttons, flags, scrollbars, message boxes — and you work out what they do by poking at them. The stated goal in each of the three puzzles is to set all the flags and then perform the final control activation, which is typically a scrollbar movement.

The flags themselves are hinted at in a message box, but that message box only appears when you press a certain button sitting in a place you have no way of knowing in advance. So the first phase of every puzzle is finding the hint, and the second phase is acting on it.

How a group plays it together

Steam lists Remote Play Together, which means one person owns the game and friends can join the session from their own machines. Since the whole thing is a single interface with one correct path, the useful way to run it as a group is to share the screen and let people call out moves, argue about which control does what, and take turns clicking. The puzzles are marked as singleplayer in the tags, so expect one person to be driving the mouse while the rest watch and suggest.

The click counts give a group something concrete to pace itself against: ШП-7 takes 1 click for the first window, 54 for the second, and 14 for the third; ШП-8 takes 41 clicks; ШП-87 takes 9. ШП-9 has no known count.

Before you start

Every puzzle has a way to close itself unexpectedly. That is a gameover, and you have to restart it manually, so losing progress is part of the loop rather than a rare accident. Some controls reset your progress, but sometimes resetting is exactly what you need in order to advance. There is only one way to finish each puzzle, which means wrong turns are dead ends until you work out the single route.

ШП-8 and ШП-87 are separate puzzles, but ШП-87 only becomes available when you launch ШП-8 with ШП-7 already running, so plan the order in which you open them. The game also closes itself at the end of a run. ШП-9 is the odd one out: its release dates are listed as a time paradox and its solution length is unknown, so go in expecting the least legible of the three.
