What Shogo: Mobile Armor Division is

Shogo: Mobile Armor Division is an anime-inspired first-person shooter from Monolith Productions. You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA began as a joint venture between three megacorporations — Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries — and has since become an independent, dominant military power. Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel, who leads the fanatical terrorist group The Fallen and threatens control of Kato, the biologically active material that makes interstellar travel possible. The action takes place on the planet Cronus, the only known source of Kato, and aboard the Leviathan, the UCA flagship commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. The game runs on anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design, and the storyline has two possible endings.

Fighting on foot and in the mech

The core of the game is the switch between two scales of combat. On foot you play it as a straightforward first-person shooter through open and urban environments. Climb into a Mobile Combat Armor and the same levels play out at giant-robot scale: the mech can run, duck, strafe, swim, and transform into an ultrafast hovertank. That transformation changes how you move through open ground, while urban areas keep the fighting tighter. Expect classic shooter handling and retro presentation rather than modern conventions, plus gore in the combat.

Playing together

Shogo supports Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so a group can join up over the internet or have friends drop into a session from their own machines. The competitive side is player-versus-player combat, which means your group can test the shooter mechanics and mech combat against each other instead of running the campaign alone.

Before you start

Go in expecting a classic, retro first-person shooter with anime styling rather than a current-generation FPS. The campaign follows Sanjuro Makabe's mission against Gabriel and The Fallen across Cronus and the Leviathan, and your choices lead to one of two endings, so a second run shows the other. The genre mix spans action, adventure and strategy, but the moment-to-moment play is shooting — on foot or from inside the Mobile Combat Armor.
