Fighting Mental's legions in VR
Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE is a virtual reality action shooter set during Earth's final struggle against Mental's invading legions of beasts and mercenaries. It serves as a prequel to Serious Sam: The First Encounter. The game leans into classic first-person shooter design: no cover systems, no camping, just you against an endless onslaught of attackers. You have a wide arsenal to work with, including a scoped assault rifle, a double-barreled shotgun, an automatic shotgun, a minigun, and flaming cannonballs. The dual-wield system lets you carry two weapons at once, so you can pair, for example, a scoped rifle with a shotgun.
Playing together with friends
The game supports online co-op, so you and your group can take on the onslaught side by side. There are three co-op flavors: Standard Co-Op, Classic Co-Op, and Coin-Op Co-Op. If your group prefers competition, the versus modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Last Man Standing, Last Team Standing, and Instant Kill. Serious Sam Fusion 2017 integration lets you play cross-platform with players of the non-VR version, so part of your group can use motion controllers while others stay on keyboard and mouse.
Locomotion and setup notes
Since this is a VR title, you should pick a locomotion style that suits you before diving in. The game offers teleport, instant teleport, blink teleport, and classic full locomotion, with or without comfort mode. Full locomotion gives you the traditional run-and-gun feel, while the teleport options can help if smooth movement makes you uneasy. Expect violent content with gore, and be ready for frantic arcade-style action where you either hold down the trigger or get overrun. Steam Workshop support means you can download player-created content and modifications through Serious Sam Fusion 2017, and submit your own creations as well.
