A top-down brawler built around close-quarters violence
Redeemer: Enhanced Edition puts you in the boots of Vasily, a former elite operative who spent 20 years hiding in a snowy monastery after escaping the cybernetic weapons corporation that trained him. Now that the corporation has tracked him down, he fights back with everything he has. The game is played from a top-down view and mixes hand-to-hand combat with firearms and melee weapons like combat knives, batons, fire axes, and hammers. You can also turn the environment into a weapon, smashing skulls, impaling enemies, or setting them on fire. The combat system includes combos, charge and jump attacks, a parry mechanic for well-timed blocks, and a disarm-or-dismember move that lets you take an enemy's gun or use their severed limb as a weapon. There are three kill types: stealth kills when you sneak around undetected, environmental kills using the surroundings, and savage executions triggered after you beat an enemy down enough.
Playing together with a friend
The cooperative mode supports two players, letting you walk through the story side by side. Remote Play Together is available, so one person can host and others can join in remotely. Arena Mode is also there for testing your skills against waves of enemies, which works as a way to practice before heading back into the story.
What to know before starting
The game is violent and includes gore, so keep that in mind. Vasily is a silent protagonist, so the narrative is carried through the situations you find yourself in rather than dialogue. You can level up Vasily as a monk or as a soldier depending on which fighting style suits you better. The story covers themes of betrayal and redemption as Vasily confronts the past he spent two decades trying to escape.
