What Qwilight is
Qwilight is a free player for BMS and BMSON rhythm charts. You play notes scrolling toward a judgment line, and the game tracks your timing, score, and life gauge. It ships with 15 game modes that can be combined with each other, plus modifiers like Auto Scratch, Mirror, Random, Super Random, measure random, speed control, fade out, and blink effects. You can adjust judgment difficulty and the life gauge, remove long notes or force Full LN mode, disable BPM changes, play in reverse, add extra note placement and indirect misses, and use chaos modes such as 4D. Lane layouts can be reduced or expanded, for example 7+1K down to 6K, and DBM converts layouts like 7+1K into 14+2K and beyond.
Playing together
Online PvP is the core of group play. There is a global ranking system with real-time competition, chat rooms, multiplayer lobbies, spectator mode, and voice chat, so a group can hang out in one lobby while people take turns. The host can share note files directly, which means nobody in the room has to go find the chart themselves before joining. Online replays let you watch other players' runs after the fact, useful for comparing how a group handled the same song. Course play runs several songs in sequence, and community-verified challenges and certification courses give a group a shared target to work through. Difficulty tables are built in, so no third-party tools are needed.
Before you start
Hardware support is broad: keyboard, touchscreen, beat controllers, gamepads, and MIDI devices all work, with ASIO 2.0 and NVIDIA Reflex for low latency, support for 8000 Hz keyboards, and lighting control through RAZER Chroma, ASUS Aura, and CORSAIR iCUE. Up to 4K resolution and high refresh rates work out of the box. If you are new to BMS, the built-in downloader fetches legal BMS and BMSON files, and there is a tutorial. Practice mode includes auto play, pattern viewing, and targeted practice on a specific section, which is the fastest way to learn a chart before competing. Editors such as BMSE, iBMSC, uBMSC, and BmsONE integrate directly, and community challenges and profile titles expand through the official Discord.
