Three teams, one messy battlefield
Pirates Vikings & Knights II drops you into three-way PvP where the Pirates, Vikings and Knights all fight each other at once. It is class-based melee and shooting: cutlasses, axes, halberds, crossbows, rifles, javelins, powder kegs and explosives all show up depending on what you pick. Combat rewards timing and aim rather than button mashing, but the tone stays loose and funny, with battle parrots you can order around and classes like the Captain, Berserker and Assassin leaning into their gimmicks. The roster holds 12 classes across the three factions, so a match can look completely different depending on who shows up.
Playing it with your group
This is online PvP, so your group joins the same servers and plays against or alongside each other in matches that already fill out with other players. The mode list gives you different ways to spend a session: Booty has you hoard treasure chests and defend them at your base, Territory is about capturing and holding set areas, Trinket Wars has you carry and protect your team's trinket while fighting, Last Team Standing and Team Deathmatch are straightforward elimination and kill-scoring, and Duel lets spectators take turns challenging the current champion one-on-one. Competitive runs 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 tournaments if your group wants something tighter and more structured. Because three teams are always in play, alliances of convenience and sudden betrayals happen on their own.
Before you start
The game is free to play and is tagged as first-person, fast-paced hack and slash, so expect short, frantic rounds rather than slow tactical ones. Version 1.0 is out of beta and brought the new Pirate Buccaneer class, new maps, new game modes, team and class reworks, balance changes, and new gameplay and teamwork mechanics, so older guides and impressions may be out of date. Maps range across tropical shores, icy glaciers and town streets, and the game has been actively developed for over 15 years with more updates planned. Pick a faction, read what your class actually carries, and expect to die a lot in the first few matches while the combat clicks.
