What MORDHAU is
MORDHAU is a medieval slasher played from first or third person. You go in as a mercenary you build yourself and fight in a fictional but realistic world, in battles that run from small skirmishes up to 64-player fights. The melee system is free-form: you control your character and your attacks directly, so you can develop your own style rather than following a fixed combo list. Ranged weapons are part of the arsenal too, so you can fight with a greatsword in the thick of it, loose arrows from a distance, or hang back and build fortifications. Combat is deliberate and heavy — blows land with weight, and the gore can be turned off if you would rather play without it.
Playing together as a group
Frontline and Invasion are the big team modes, both supporting battles with many players, which is where a full group of friends ends up fighting side by side. If you want something cooperative instead of competitive, Horde mode has you and your friends holding out against waves of enemies together. Both online co-op and online PvP are available, and cross-platform multiplayer means your group does not have to be on the same store to meet on the battlefield. You can also practice alone against AI when nobody else is on, or when you want to learn a weapon without losing a duel to a stranger.
Before you start
Your mercenary is yours to shape: sculpt the face, build the weapon from parts, and pick armor piece by piece. Do that before you queue, since having the right loadout matters once the fighting starts. Expect siege situations as well as open melee — ladders, cavalry charges, and engines like the catapult and ballista are all part of matches, so the field keeps changing around you. Combat aims to look believable while staying playable, so reads and timing matter more than mashing. Stats track your progress, achievements and trading cards are on offer, controller support is partial, and Valve Anti-Cheat runs with the game. Saves sync through Steam Cloud, and Remote Play lets you join from a phone or tablet.
