Running a station in the TAU System
You take over as Station Commander in an alien star system and start with raw gathering: atomize asteroids, mine ores, deploy cloud-miners, then process what you haul back into advanced materials, items and parts. The core loop is building supply chains and automating them so the station keeps producing without you babysitting every step. Objectives come from constructing starships, which in turn unlock more advanced technologies. Civilian and Military vessels need very different construction techniques, and the store text notes that some of those techniques are more dangerous to you and your station than others. Beyond ships you can build Robot Freighters, Wormholes and harness Antimatter as your industry scales up.
Playing with friends
Outworld Station supports online co-op for up to 4 players in PVE mode. The group splits the workload across exploration, combat and construction, and the game lets you share tasks and to-do lists so everyone knows what they are working on. That matters once supply chains get long: one person can keep mining and processing while another lays out new station modules or handles ship construction, and the shared list keeps the plan visible instead of buried in chat. Combat is against the environment and other forces in the system, so having someone on defence while others expand is a real division of labour.
What to know before you start
The system is described as hostile, and you are not the only force in it, so protection is part of the build plan rather than an optional extra. You recover alien artifacts along the way and spend them on upgrades for your Station and Drone: weapons, shields, afterburners for navigating hostile areas, or boosts to station power and production efficiency. Expansion is not limited to one site — you can found multiple stations across numerous planets to reach rare resources and link them with wormholes into interstellar supply chains, which adds a logistics layer on top of the factory automation. Expect a top-down 3D management game about layout, throughput and resource flow, with PvE threats shaping where and how you build.
