What Onirism is

Onirism is a 3D platformer and shooter set in Crearia, a dream world built from imagination. You play as Carol, a girl with plenty of attitude, who chases a mysterious portal after her plushie Bunbun is stolen. The game is in Early Access and has been in development since early access began six years ago, with the team working toward version 1.0.

The campaign runs across more than 20 levels split into 10 chapters. Each chapter mixes platforming, puzzles and secrets with combat, and the settings shift constantly: candy-colored forests, pyramids, a moon base and stranger places besides. Along the way you face more than 300 unique enemies, each with its own design and behavior, plus more than 20 bosses ranging from sentient carnivorous plants to megalomaniac scientists.

Playing together

The Steam features list Remote Play Together, and the tags include Local Multiplayer and Local Co-Op, so you can bring friends into the game locally rather than playing alone. The store text also mentions multiplayer where players blast each other or take on bosses together, in local or online play, but that is described as an open beta coming soon, so treat it as not available yet. For now, the reliable way to share a session is local play and Remote Play Together.

What to know before starting

Expect a big pile of stuff to collect and unlock: over 300 weapons and gadgets, including blasters, bubble guns and rocket launchers, each with its own feel; over 200 costumes for Carol, from space suits to wacky hats; and more than 20 vehicles such as the Buzzard Plane, the Royal Hovercraft and mechs for getting around stages quickly.

The tone is colorful, cute and funny, tagged as family friendly, but the combat is fast and intense with a boomer-shooter edge, so it plays more like an action game than a gentle platformer. The developers credit a soundtrack as a highlight and list voice talent including K-pop star AleXa, Anna Lauzeray-Gishi, Bob Lennon and BenZaie among others.
