A destructible sandbox built for messing around

Bang-On Balls: Chronicles is an open-world sandbox where you roll around as a customizable ball character and smash, bounce, and fight your way through it. The world is destructible, so a lot of what you see can be knocked apart rather than just walked past. On top of that it mixes combat, platforming, and a collect-a-thon scavenger hunt: you are constantly hunting down things to gather while moving through the space. The tone is goofy and comedic, and the whole package is aimed at being family friendly, so the humor stays light. It also carries a football (soccer) flavor to the movement and physics, which fits the rolling-ball idea.

Playing together

You can go through it solo, or bring friends in two ways. Locally, two players share the screen in split screen. Online, co-op runs up to 4 players, so a full group can explore the same world at once. Remote Play Together is also supported, which lets someone join your session even if they do not have the game. Either way the structure stays the same: everyone rolls around, breaks things, fights, and collects, with the open world giving each player room to wander off and find their own pickups before regrouping.

Before you start

Character customization is part of the setup, so expect to spend a little time making your ball look the way you want before heading out. The game is tagged as singleplayer as well as co-op, so playing alone is a fully supported way to go, not a stripped-down mode. There is no paid cosmetic DLC, which means everything you can dress your character in comes with the game itself. Given the mix of combat, platforming, and physics-driven movement, expect a bit of a learning curve getting used to how your ball handles, especially when several players are bouncing around the same destructible space.
