What No King No Kingdom is

No King No Kingdom is a first-person strategy game that mixes real-time strategy with an action RPG. Instead of sitting above the map in a top-down view, you stand on the ground with your troops and lead them yourself. You can pick up a sword and fight alongside your soldiers, or step into the shoes of any unit through the avatar system and play the battle from their perspective. The world runs in real time without pauses, so decisions on the local battlefield and on the global map both demand quick thinking.

Your kingdom grows in two ways. Locally you build walls, defensive towers, farms, and barracks to hold an area. Globally you expand across the map by setting up villages, mines, sawmills, and plantations. Between those two layers you recruit troops, run upgrades, and unlock new unit types as you progress.

Playing it with friends

The game supports local co-op in split screen, and it also works through Remote Play Together. In co-op, Player 1 takes the role of the ruler while Player 2 acts as a loyal companion. The companion can carry the king, gather resources, heal units, and fight in battle next to you. That split of duties shapes how a session runs: one of you manages the broader campaign and the kingdom, while the other handles fieldwork and support, then both of you join up for the big fights.

What to know before starting

Combat is not only about soldiers. Wild creatures can be tamed and used as combat units or as mounts, including Golems, Spiders, and Snakes. Riding a dragon over the battlefield or storming enemy walls on a giant elephant can turn a fight around. Bosses and large monster hordes are part of the regular challenge, so expect heavy encounters rather than only skirmishes.

Sandbox maps are generated with a range of customizable options, which gives each new run a different layout and setup. The game is built entirely by a single independent developer, and the feature set reflects that hands-on approach. Since time never stops, a group jumping in cold should be ready to build, expand, and fight at the same pace rather than taking turns planning.
