A Duel to the Other Side

Nidhogg 2 is a fast, brutal 2D fighting game where the goal is simple: reach the other side of the stage while stopping anyone who gets in your way. You can parry incoming attacks, finish off downed opponents with a throat slit, or pick up different weapons like swords and bows to change how you fight. The game leans into its violent, grotesque tone with stylized pixel art by Toby Dixon and a soundtrack featuring artists like Mux Mool, Geotic, Doseone, Osborne, and Daedelus. Ten stages take you from castles to the insides of the Nidhogg itself, and you can alter the rules with over 10 different game variables to change how a match plays out.

Playing Together

You can challenge a friend sitting next to you or a random opponent online through matchmaking and private games. For larger groups, there are 8-player tournaments where everyone fights for the top seat. If your group is spread out, the game supports Online PvP and Remote Play Together, so friends can join in over the internet. Before jumping in, you can customize your character from head to toe and pick which of the four weapons fits your style, since each one has its own distinct traits to master.

Before You Start

The combat is quick and unforgiving, so expect to die often and learn the timing of parries and weapon swings through repetition. The game carries a comedic but violent tone with plenty of gore, so keep that in mind for your group. You can play against the AI to practice before facing real opponents, and the game variables let you tweak the rules if you want a different kind of match.
