Restoring a scattered cosmos

My Little Universe starts with you stranded on a barren moon, holding your tools and a ship with no fuel. From there you set out to rebuild what a mysterious threat took away. The game mixes mining, crafting, exploration and combat: you swing a pickaxe at rich mineral deposits, chop with an axe, fight with a sword, and haul what you gather back to remake lost lands. There are more than 70 gatherable resources and mythical artifacts guarded by tough enemies, so a good part of each trip is digging, hauling and deciding what to spend it on.

The scale is bigger than one moon. You travel through 9 mythical worlds and more than 65 dungeons, ranging from mythology-inspired lands to hostile alien worlds. Along the way you face more than 150 adversaries, including mythical creatures, alien horrors and demigods. Gear matters: weapons, tools and armor can be improved up to 30+ levels, and each planet brings challenges that push you toward the next upgrade.

Playing together in split-screen

The co-op is local split-screen, with room for up to three friends joining you. Everyone shares the same screen and the same journey, so you can split up across a dungeon, cover each other during a fight, or pile onto a mineral deposit together. Remote Play Together is also listed as a Steam feature, which is worth knowing if your group is spread across different machines rather than sitting on one couch.

Because gathering and upgrading are constant, having extra hands speeds up the resource grind considerably. Four players means more pickaxes on the same rock and more swords between you and whatever is guarding an artifact.

What to know before starting

Expect a long haul rather than a quick session. Nine worlds, 65+ dungeons and gear that runs past 30 levels means steady progress over many hours, with the loop of explore, gather, upgrade, push onward repeating throughout. Combat is a real part of the game, not a side activity, so you will be fighting constantly between mining trips.

The presentation is minimalist and colorful, with a 2.5D look, a cozy atmosphere and a relaxing soundtrack. Controller support is listed, which suits the split-screen setup well. Character customization is available, so each player can look like themselves on screen.
