A dungeon crawler in the Minecraft world

Minecraft Dungeons is an action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, set in the Minecraft universe. You fight your way through wildly varied, treasure-stuffed levels on a quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager. The view is top-down and isometric, and the whole thing plays out like a hack-and-slash crawl: move room to room, clear out the mobs, and scoop up whatever gear drops along the way. The tone stays colorful and family friendly, with a light, funny streak running through it.

Playing together with your group

You can brave the dungeons alone or team up with friends. Up to four players can play together in co-op mode, fighting side by side through the levels. Everyone brings their own build to the fight, so a group can cover different ground: some players go up-close and personal with melee swings, others hang back with ranged attacks, and others tank their way through swarms of mobs shielded by heavy armour. Between the four of you, that means deciding who soaks up damage, who picks off threats from range, and who wades into the thick of it.

What to know before starting

Expect a loot-driven loop. There are over 250 unique artifacts, gear, and enchantments to unlock, and these are what let you perform and survive devastating special attacks. Personalizing your character is part of the setup, so you will spend time picking gear and enchantments that suit how you want to fight before heading into a level. The Ultimate Edition includes the base game and all six DLCs — Jungle Awakens, Creeping Winter, Howling Peaks, Flames of the Nether, Hidden Depths, and Echoing Void — which continue the story of the Orb of Dominance with dimension-hopping levels, countless mobs, and untold treasures. There is also an Ultimate DLC Bundle containing those same six DLCs if the base game is already yours.
