A WWII real-time tactics sandbox

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is a World War II real-time tactics game where you command infantry, tanks, and support units across battlefields in Europe, Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. Five factions are fully playable, each with a roster drawn from more than 250 vehicles and over 200 soldiers with unique loadouts. Matches run in real time, and the series' signature Direct Control lets you take over any single soldier or vehicle and steer it manually, playing it like a third-person action game when a moment needs precise aim or positioning. The single-player side offers 15 new skirmish missions plus 25 reworked missions from the original Assault Squad, ranging from tank assaults to sniper infiltration.

Playing together with friends

Multiplayer is where the game gets big. Maps support modes from 1v1 up to 8v8, so a full Discord group can fill a team and split roles across armor, infantry, and support. Extreme Mode is built for large, chaotic engagements that push both strategy and micromanagement. For a more coordinated session, 8-player co-op lets your group take on skirmish missions side by side, with voice chat and friend invites built in. A player progression and ranked system rewards time spent, and Workshop integration means custom maps and missions are easy to share within the group.

Before you start

This is a difficult, realistic tactics game, not a casual clicker. Units die fast, line of sight and cover matter, and micromanagement becomes essential as battles grow. The engine supports advanced multi-core processing, upgraded shaders, seasonal camouflage, reworked vehicle models, and new sound design and voice acting, so expect a demanding setup for the larger battles. Interface and AI improvements include kill counts and squad icons to help track the fight. Development tools ship with the game: a 3D model exporter, mission editor, and map editor, plus in-game video recording. Steam features include matchmaking, cloud saves, achievements, leaderboards, player statistics, and VAC support.
