Casting spells with your voice
Mage Arena is a first-person magic battler where you speak the spell words out loud to make things happen. Say the right word and you launch a fireball, shoot a frostbolt, conjure a wormhole, or fire an arcane blast. The whole point of the fight is the feud between sorcerers and warlocks over who rules the arcane arts, and the battle is overseen by the Goblin Archmagus inside the Mage Arena. Expect a cartoony, colorful look with a dark fantasy edge, and a 3D island that shifts around between matches.
Playing together as a group
Pick a side and join a voice-controlled battle of up to 4v4, sorcerers against warlocks. Everyone on your team needs a working microphone, since your voice is the controller — no spell is cast without saying the word. If your group wants something tighter, you can challenge a rival to a 1v1 in the Mage Colosseum instead of running a full team fight. Because the game leans on spoken words, a quiet room and clear mics matter more than usual; background noise or someone talking over a teammate can turn into a misfired spell.
Winning the match
Victory runs through two steps. First, you have to infiltrate the enemy base and capture their flag pole. Then you eliminate the remaining members of the opposing team — once captured, the Goblin Archmagus deems them unworthy of resurrection, so there are no respawns to save them. With no comebacks after that point, holding your flag and keeping your team alive is as important as landing hits.
Before you start
The island is full of resources you can gather and craft into useful items for an edge over the other side, so spend some time exploring the fantastical landscapes rather than rushing straight into a fight. The map changes, so routes and hiding spots you learn one round may not be there the next. Mage Arena is in Early Access, which means the game is still being worked on and things can shift as it develops.
