A 2D platformer built for racing other people
Madrun is a 2D pixel platformer where the point is not to finish alone but to beat everyone else to the flag. You run, jump and shove your way through levels while throwing items at the pack. The game ships with 20 levels, each with its own theme, gimmick and difficulty, plus a random level generator that builds fresh layouts, so no two races play out the same way. It's free with no in-game purchases and no advertisements.
How your group plays it together
Online VS lets you connect and race against up to 7 other players. You can host a public room that anyone can join, host a private room that only people who know the exact room name can get into, join someone's public room, or enter a private room with the right name. Rooms have chat, and the host decides when the match starts. Once it starts, everyone votes for a level and one of the votes is picked at random, then the race begins. If you'd rather sit on one couch, Local Duel runs offline on split-screen against a friend on the same device, with player 1 on WASD and player 2 on the arrow keys. Time Attack is for running levels offline alone and chasing your own best record.
Items, chaos and the pause menu
Hit a "!" block during a race and you get an item. What you receive depends on your position and on random chance: the further behind you are, the more powerful the item you get, so trailing players stay in the fight. Using items quickly keeps the chaos at maximum. Enter opens the pause menu mid-race, where you can continue or quit the match in Online VS and Local Duel, and additionally retry the level from the start in Time Attack.
Before you start
The default controls are A and D to run, W to jump and S to use an item, and every key can be rebound in the settings menu. Menus are navigated with the mouse. Settings also cover the Online Mode toggle, which chooses between playing with people worldwide or only from your region, toggles for player names and the minimap during online races, and full-screen or windowed display. The help menu explains what each item in the game does, so a quick read there saves confusion in your first few races.
