Two elemental friends, one island to reach

Kinduo is a 2D puzzle platformer built around two elemental characters who work together to get back to their island. Each character has their own set of unique abilities, so the solution to a stage usually depends on both of them doing different jobs. The levels are laid out in a linear path through three different biomes, and there are 30 stages in total. Along the way you push boxes, connect objects with electricity, break ice blocks, and blow things up, with more than six different mechanics spread across the run. The whole package is presented in a colorful pixel art style that keeps things light and easy to read.

How a group plays it together

Kinduo is designed for local co-op, so two people can sit down and play through the campaign side by side. Since both characters have abilities the other does not, you will spend most of your time coordinating: one player sets up a box or a circuit while the other follows up with a break or a blast. The game also supports Remote Play Together, which means a friend who is not in the same room can join your session over the internet and play along as if they were on the same couch. If nobody is available to play with, the whole thing can be played single-player as well.

Before you start

The campaign is linear, so stages unlock in order rather than being open to roam, and the difficulty comes from reading what each mechanic asks of the pair rather than from reflex-heavy platforming. It is tagged as casual and relaxing, so expect steady puzzle solving over punishing precision. Controller support is listed, which is worth knowing if you plan to play from the couch. The two characters are not interchangeable, so be ready to swap roles between stages when a new mechanic shows up.
