A two-player platformer built for the couch

Putty Pals is a side-scrolling platformer made for exactly two players sitting together. You play as two bouncing blobs who are lost far from home, and the only way back is to work as a pair. The game is built around that idea rather than being a single-player game with a second pad bolted on: both characters are on screen at all times, and most puzzles need each of them doing a different job. Expect gliding, bouncing, squishing and swinging through a bright cartoon world, with plenty of chances to fail in funny ways on the way to getting it right.

How you play it together

Communication is the core mechanic. Colour-based puzzles mean one player often has to set something up while the other takes advantage of it, so talking through what you are about to do matters more than fast reflexes. Flattening yourself into a trampoline to launch your friend to a higher ledge is a typical example of the kind of move you will be calling out to each other. The game supports any mix of controllers and keyboard, so you can sort out who gets what before you start. It is local co-op only, designed for two people sharing one screen rather than playing over the internet.

What to expect before you start

There are 28 full-sized levels plus 25 bonus mini-levels that unlock as you go, along with hidden secrets and time trials for when you want to replay a stage with a tighter goal. Collectibles, achievements and trading cards give completionists something to chase after the main path is done. The world runs from explosive Mt Puttuvius to frozen Puttarctica, with cute character animations and voiced characters throughout.

Going in solo is possible but unusual: since the puzzles need two characters, a lone player controls both at once from the keyboard, which the developers describe as tricky but doable. The intended experience is two people side by side, so plan to bring a friend.
