What Idle Hacking is

Idle Hacking: An Inaction RPG is a persistent idle MMORPG built around a text-based hacking theme. Your character keeps working at it: hacking virtual opponents and gathering resources, and progress continues for up to 12 hours after you log out. The "Inaction RPG" idea means the game keeps moving whether you are actively clicking through it or not.

Gear is the core of character building. There are dozens of stats and over 100 different affixes that can show up on equipment, using a prefix/suffix system borrowed from ARPGs. You craft gear to chase specific stat combinations, and the rarest option is a "Signature Affix" item, which brings unique gameplay mechanics and lets you build around unorthodox stat mixes. Expect a lot of inventory management and theorycrafting about which affixes stack well together.

Playing it with your group

Syndicates are the group layer. You can start your own or join one with other players, share resources, and build boost mechanics that strengthen both hacking and gathering for everyone involved. That gives a group a shared project beyond each person's own character.

There are also daily community boss events. All players push against a world boss together, and some players take a support role for the combatants instead of dealing damage directly. Completing more levels of the event unlocks powerful temporary buffs and pushes the community toward new records, so a coordinated group can decide who fights and who supports.

The marketplace covers trading between players, which is where a group can move crafted gear and gathered resources around rather than everyone farming separately.

Before you start

The game is free to play and tagged as Massively Multiplayer, so other players are part of the world: syndicates, marketplace trades, and community boss events all depend on them. Online Co-op is listed as a supported feature.

Set expectations around pace. This is an incremental idler first: much of the progress happens while you are away, capped at 12 hours of offline work, so sessions can be short check-ins rather than long grinds. The depth sits in the numbers — affix combinations, stat optimization, and how you gear up — so if you enjoy sorting through loot and planning builds, there is plenty to dig into. If you want constant action, the "Inaction" framing tells you what the design is aiming at.
