What HyperBrawl Tournament is

HyperBrawl Tournament is a futuristic handball game wrapped in arena brawling. You assemble a team of two intergalactic heroes, arm them with weapons and physics-defying power-ups, and try to score while shoving opponents out of the arena. Shots can be curved mid flight, so scoring is as much about tricking the keeper as it is about raw power. There are 12 unique heroes and 8 weapons to unlock, and cosmetics to personalise them with. Mixing heroes and weapons gives you over 4000 combinations, so you can build a team that suits how you like to play. Matches take place across 12 arenas spread over the Universe, each with its own obstacles to learn and work around.

Playing together as a group

The offline Arcade mode is the couch option: 2 to 4 players on one screen, competing against each other. The store notes that a controller is required for local multiplayer, since adding a second player means two controllers connected. If your group is spread out, the Online Private Match mode lets you set up a lobby and invite friends for a 2-4 player game. There is also Online Blitz, a 1v1 competitive tournament against players worldwide, where longer win streaks bring greater rewards from cups to Artifacts. Steam lists Online PvP as a feature, and the game supports both controller and keyboard and mouse.

Before you start

The single-player campaign covers the Galaxy League and the Cosmic Cup, with over 7 hours of single-player playtime. Progressing further unlocks 12 cups, and the store lists over 500 hours to unlock all online Cups and cosmetic rewards. The game is described as family friendly and party oriented, but the local mode is explicitly competitive, so expect a heated screen. At its core it is a multiplayer sports brawler inspired by Speedball, aimed at players who enjoy Rocket League, Mario Strikers, TowerFall Ascension, Brawlhalla, Windjammers 2, DiscJam and Overcooked 2.
