A high-speed ball fight in Shine City

Lethal League Blaze is a 2D arcade sports game where the ball is the weapon. In Shine City the anti-gravity ball game has been illegal for a long time, and the players who kept going became the Lethal League. The aim is simple: hit the ball so your opponents cannot return it. Every strike makes the ball faster, sometimes doubling its speed, until it moves at shatteringly extreme velocities. You can tag the ball with your color, but at those speeds the advantage flips quickly. The cast is full of unique characters, each with special moves, and the whole thing runs on a Breakbeat, Hip-Hop and House soundtrack from Hideki Naganuma, Frank Klepacki, Pixelord, Bignic and Klaus Veen.

Playing together with your group

The game supports up to 4 players, both locally and online, so your group can play in the same room or over a connection. Remote Play Together is available as well. Matches are quick and readable: everyone watches the ball, and the tension comes from the rising speed rather than from complicated controls. You can also pick your preferred win condition, such as HP, one-shot kill or points, and game modes like Strikers, which uses goals, and Lethal Volley. That flexibility makes it easy to set up a session that suits how competitive your group wants to be.

Learning the depth

It starts with simply hitting the ball back and forth faster and faster. From there you add Smashes, Bunts and Special Abilities to control angles and catch opponents off guard. Beyond that sit parries, throws as counters, and taunts for the psychological side of the fight. The skill ceiling is high, so expect a gap between new players and experienced ones, though the basics land quickly.

Before you start

There is plenty to work through on your own: Arcade Mode sends you through a series of opponents toward a bossfight, and Story Mode is event-based and follows the goings-on in Shine City from multiple sides. Playing unlocks characters, outfits, new modes, new stages, and even the soundtrack to listen to at leisure. Lethal League Blaze is the sequel to Lethal League, with double the characters at launch and more planned afterward.
