Card battles in the paper dungeons

HELLCARD is a cooperative roguelike deckbuilder set in the paper dungeons known from Book of Demons. Battles are turn-based and tactical, and you build your deck as you go. The goal is to push down through the dungeon against the armies of darkness and eventually face the Archdemon himself. The game is tagged as difficult, so expect a real challenge rather than a casual stroll.

Playing together with friends

You can descend solo, recruit computer-controlled companions, or join other players' lobbies. Co-op battles support up to three heroes fighting side by side against the Archdemon's hordes, and your friends or strangers can drop in to help. Because it is a card battler, everyone plays their cards on their turn and the fight moves along at a quick pace.

Positioning matters

What sets HELLCARD apart from other deckbuilders is that monster placement actually matters and can be used to your advantage. Where enemies sit on the field changes how you approach the fight, so pay attention to the layout and not just the cards in your hand. It is a small detail that adds a tactical layer on top of the usual deckbuilding decisions.

Before you start

HELLCARD began as a new game mode inside the Book of Demons universe, but its design grew large enough that it became a stand-alone spin-off. It is part of the Return 2 Games series, which reimagines classic PC game ideas with modern, simplified mechanics. Go in expecting a tough roguelike run where your deck, your party, and enemy positioning all decide whether you make it to the Archdemon.
