A pig dungeon crawl built from cards

Card Hog is a dungeon crawler where the dungeon, the enemies, the weapons and the spells all come from cards. You pick a hog and move it across a grid, dealing with what each card puts in front of you. There are more than 100 cards to discover, including dangerous enemies, powerful weapons and exciting spells, plus dozens of enemies and bosses to fight. The run structure has roguelike and deck building elements, so each crawl is about the cards you find and the way you combine them. Nine hogs come with their own card sets and perks, which is the main way to shape a run around how you like to play.

Playing together

Card Hog has local multiplayer modes, so a group sitting around one setup can jump into a session together. Steam also lists Online Co-op and Remote Play Together, which means friends who are not in the same room can join in — either over the network or by streaming the game to someone else's machine. The grid-based, turn-based combat keeps the pace readable when several people are watching and taking part, and the humorous shenanigans give the group something to laugh about between turns.

Before you start

Decide early whether you want to lean on a specific hog or keep your options open. Picking a hog that fits your style gives you a card set and perks that already point in one direction, while the wider pool of weapons, spells and character perks lets you bend a run as cards come in. Expect a tactical, turn-based game rather than a fast one: positioning on the grid and the order you play cards matter as much as the cards themselves. If your group wants to make the game their own, Card Hog Steam Workshop lets you draw and upload new character outfits, so you can put your own art into the run before anyone else sees it.
